Dennis O’MalleyCEO & President
Dennis O’Malley is CEO & President of Caliva, the largest vertically integrated cannabis company in California. Driven by a passion for enabling people to choose their own health and wellness options, Mr. O’Malley has launched Caliva into a rapid growth phase, racing to become the #1 trusted brand in cannabis. Mr. O’Malley has over a 20 year track record of leadership roles in fast growing companies in emerging markets as well as successfully raising capital from institutional investors and in addition holds multiple technology patents. Most recently Mr. O’Malley co-founded and lead a venture backed software company that enabled brands like Red Bull, Nike, Adidas, The North Face, and Reebok to scale their revenue through ambassador marketing programs. The company was sold in 2016 for a 10x revenue multiple. Mr. O’Malley holds an MBA from Santa Clara University where he graduated with honors.
Steve Allan is CFO of Caliva, responsible for Finance & Accounting, Data Analytics, Legal & Human Resources, and Investor Relations. Steve brings a strong financial background and passion for growth to his role at Caliva. For the decade prior to joining Caliva in 2017, Steve was the Head of SVB Analytics and SVB Securities Strategic Advisory, responsible for the three areas of information services provided to the innovation economy, Strategic Advisory Services, Compliance Valuations, and Insights. Before SVB, he worked with J.P. Morgan Chase in New York for the firm's fixed income trading business on the proprietary and client-focused U.S. Dollar Fixed Income Derivatives desks. Before J.P. Morgan, Steve worked with AT&T, working with finance, marketing and sales. During this time, Steve also co-authored the winning business plan and best presentation award winner for the IrishAngels-sponsored University of Notre Dame McCloskey Social Business Plan Competition with a plan for a socially-focused, hybrid for-benefit organization, PEPY Tours. He then served as a board member and Chief Financial Officer for the organization. Steve earned a Master's in business administration from Duke University's Fuqua School of Business and a bachelor's degree in finance from the University of Notre Dame. He has been conferred the Chartered Financial Analyst designation.
Larry ThackerChief Compliance Officer
Larry Thacker is a successful entrepreneur specializing in large regulated health care operations. His auspicious career is highlighted by his success in building and selling the largest independent medical supply and specialty pharmacy in California. He believes in partnering and giving back to the communities he invests in. Passionate about philanthropy, Larry is involved with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation as well as the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. Larry is the father of six children and in his spare time enjoys travelling and discovering fine wines.
Matt McLeanChief Digital Officer
Matt McLean’s career in product development and business operations has been punctuated by his history of building and implementing new and innovative business solutions that improve the customer experience as well as internal business processes. As the Global Senior Vice President for Westfield Labs, the Research & Development division of Westfield Corporation, a global shopping mall management firm, Mr. McLean efforts advanced the company’s development of digital solutions, including the “Searchable Mall” that is designed to improve the customer’ shopping experience at 146 shopping centers worldwide, serving 1.4B shoppers annually.
Prior to his tenure with Westfield Labs, Mr. McLean served in a product management capacity with Cisco Systems, charged with planning and executing the integration of service offerings by acquired companies into Cisco’s existing operational and financial infrastructure. At CompareNetworks, a start-up that he launched with seed money from family and friends, Mr. McLean led the company through the product development and launch phases, growing revenue to a peak of $25M. A common theme for Mr. McLean’s career is that he is a driving force behind sustainable top line revenue growth by initiating go-to-market plans that consistently exceeded revenue expectations.
Shannon Harder RonaldChief Culture Officer
As Chief Culture Officer, Shanny Harder Ronald promotes a work climate that utilizes the talent, diversity and passion of Caliva’s workforce of more than 250 employees. Her leadership focuses on building strong independent team engagement and collaboration among teams throughout the company. Shanny’s capacity to inspire employees to bring greater purpose, passion and productivity to work was developed during her global engagement with other spiritual, community and organizational leaders. Among her greatest achievements, Shanny was part of a collaborative global leadership initiative to bring 140 communities together for a common purpose. She led the development of a structure to select a leader to use the enterprise to provide services to people with developmental disabilities across the globe. In addition to her extensive background in business administration and high-level finance, Shanny specializes in human consciousness and energy healing and as such teaches about the importance of careful word choices to help Caliva employees exceed fiscal, product and customer goals. In addition to being a Certified Restorative Touch Practitioner, Shanny is a member of the International Coaching Federation and co-author of a book titled, Lasting Gifts. She was awarded a leadership scholarship from Regis University where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree with a double major in Accounting and Business Administration and a minor in Psychology. She holds a Master of Arts degree in Not-For-Profit Leadership from Seattle University.
Rosie RothrockVice President - Brand
Rosie joined the Caliva team as VP Branding & Marketing in 2015 playing a foundational role in the direction and establishment of the brand, retail store, product designs and positioning, and PR/marketing strategy and execution. Before Caliva, Rosie worked in talent, fashion and consumer brand strategy and Public Relations in New York at Brandsway Creative and was VP Brand Marketing Strategy for Seattle luxury real estate outpost Bennion Deville Homes and Windermere Southern CA (now Avenue Properties).
Mike VuVice President of Research Science
Mike Vu spent the last 2.5 years with Caliva developing out the lab, extraction, and science teams. Vu’s science background started at UC Davis where he studied biochemistry and molecular biology. From there, he spent time doing lab benchwork on cancer cells at a Stanford VA lab. It was here he learned wet lab techniques at one of the most premier cardiothoracic surgery labs in the US.
Vu moved on to working on biomedical diagnostic assays, robotics, and product development at a Biomedical startup in the Davis area. This position required travel and he worked with science partners in Belgium, Germany, France, Korea, and China. After this stint, he co-founded and spent 2 years developing and operating a medical marijuana dispensary in Vallejo and spent a year working on and acquiring medical marijuana licenses and permits for dispensary and cultivation in San Jose, CA and Las Vegas, NV.
Vu continues to collaborate with scientists and professors from California Universities to encourage innovation and data driven decision making in the cannabis space.
Maya KochmanDirector of Research
An internationally accomplished scientist specializing in chemistry, product development, and food science; Maya comes to Caliva from Impossible Foods, Leiden University, and Tel Aviv University. Data driven decision making, consumer wellness needs, and consumption preferences drive Maya’s work at Caliva to produce results that elevate the level of sophistication in the cannabis space.
Tracy OgishiVice President - Product
Tracy joins Caliva from the ecommerce and retail space where she helped grow and develop advanced white-label solutions for online purchase tracking, returns portals, and honed her world-class program manager and client-facing skills. Her resume includes stints with renowned companies from Narvar, eBay, Nike, Macy’s, and Accenture. Her keen sense of the customer experience drives her Product team in developing cutting-edge product for the cannabis space.
Naveed GorayaVice President - Supply Chain
Naveed is an experienced supply chain leader with a history of working in the pharma, nutraceutical and food production industries. He joined Caliva from Santa Cruz Nutritionals as the Head of Global Supply Chain. He is highly skilled in end-to-end supply chain management, negotiation, operations management, ERP optimization, team building, and Six Sigma manufacturing. Naveed directs the supply chain operations for Caliva with his strong operations leadership and extensive experience delivering transformative change and cost savings.
Sean PetersVice President - Sales
With a decorated history of business development and strategic partnerships, Sean Peters leads Caliva’s business development and sales teams. Skilled in high-level contract negotiations, Sean builds long-term, mutually advantageous relationships. His background in services contractions and negotiation gives Caliva’s sales team a fresh industry approach for product sales and development.
Royce SubaGeneral Counsel
Royce Suba is the General Counsel of Caliva. Prior to joining Caliva, Royce spent his career in finance in various legal and compliance roles with hedge, private equity and venture capital funds including Technology Crossover Ventures, Vista Equity Partners, Makena Capital Management and Hall Capital Partners. Royce graduated from UC Berkeley with a BA in Political Economies of Industrialized Societies, UC Davis School of Law with a JD and San Diego State University with an MS in Financial and Tax Planning. Royce is a member of the State Bar of California and an Investment Adviser Certified Compliance Professional.
Chloe CowlesCaliva Cultivation
A passion for plants and an AAS in Urban Horticulture and Nursery Operations lead Chloe to join the Caliva Cultivation team in 2016 as a gardener and quickly rose through the ranks into management. She brings her skills in organization and planning as well as her understanding of plant biology to coordinate the plants and the staff as they move through the near acre of cultivation space. She strives to elevate the care of traditional indoor cannabis cultivation to a large, high-tech grow operation. She shares her advocacy for cannabis as a wellness product with her team, and works upstream to bring the best quality flower California’s consumers can buy.
Ryan BrantleyDirector of Cultivation
Ryan’s passion for cannabis growing started over 18 years ago eventually inspiring him to return to school to study Agricultural science at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.
Since then, Ryan received a Bacherlor’s in Fruit Science, a Master’s in Crop Science and has spent a decade conducting agricultural field research on the coast of CA.
Ryan joined Caliva in October 2017 after spending 3 years as Field Research Associate for the Cal Poly Strawberry Center. Ryan’s love for cannabis and his unique agricultural knowledge serve as the foundation for producing some of Caliva’s most potent releases to date!
Kristine came to Caliva from the world of Silicon Valley startups where she’s helped drive demand using industry-leading tactics in SEO, advertising, content and design. Her passion for building scalable, automated digital programs pushes her to dream and achieve big things in the cannabis space with Caliva. Kristine directs all wholesale and digital marketing. She holds an MBA from University of Utah.
